The Södingberg Celtic and Roman Museum explores the archaeology of the Söding Valley, a valley landscape on the edge of the Alps.

The Söding valley and the adjoining mountain ranges have been settled for almost 6000 years. In Roman times, almost 2000 years ago, intensive use began, as evidenced by tumuli and Roman stones. Farms were established in the fertile valley floors, and in Södingberg a large estate, a "villa rustica", was built on the site of a Celtic settlement.

The villa of Södingberg became known through excavations by the Federal Office for the Protection of Monuments in 1996 and 1997. These excavations uncovered only a part of the large complex, which existed from the end of the 1st to the 4th century AD.

Surprisingly, traces of older wooden houses of the Latène period and corresponding small finds (vessel pottery, glass arm ring, coins) were also discovered. The villa thus stands on the site of a Celtic settlement.
The finds and features of this Södingberg villa form the core of the Celtic and Roman Museum.
