First mentioned as Dragoschken (probably Slavic for an elevation) in the late 14th century. The oldest parts of the castle were erected by the Khünburger family in the 15th and 16th centuries, the heyday of gold mining in the area.
Hans Adam Stampfer von Walchenberg acquired the castle in 1962. He had given up his smelting plant in Vordernberg (Styria) and had moved to the Möll Valley to operate a copper mine. Together with his sons, Hans Josef and Franz Adam, he turned the castle into a representative Baroque building.
The elegant, three-storey building has a columned doorway with the coat of arms of the original owners. The Festsaal hall boasts beautiful fresco paintings by Fromiller, the castle chapel is decorated with illusionist works by A. Zoller.
