From Losheim, you cycle along small roads and gravel paths through a shady forest area, through which you reach Mettlach, where you meet the Saar. The entire border area from Saarland to France is known for its ceramics industry – here in Mettlach you can visit one of the best-known companies. The headquarters of Villeroy and Boch and the associated experience center, where you can learn everything about the company and the ceramic production in Saarland, are located here.
After this history lesson, the following picturesque section along the Saar is perfect for sorting out your thoughts and simply enjoying nature. From Mettlach downstream along the Saar, you reach the Rhineland-Palatinate border at Taben-Rodt. You leave the river and reach the tri-border area Germany/France/Luxembourg via a steep climb with its picturesque vineyards. The Romans already liked it here long ago – in Nennig you can admire the largest and best-preserved Roman mosaic north of the Alps.
From here, it is not far to the stage destination Remich. Here you have the choice of whether you want to stay overnight on the German side or cross the Moselle and sleep in Luxembourg. There are plenty of accommodations, including two Bett+Bike hotels, for which you must cross the national border. Remich itself has no railway connection; if you still want to continue your journey by train, you can connect from Nennig to Trier.
