Hochstuhl

From the Stouhütte via the Johannsenruhe into the Hochstuhlkar and then over the Grüne Ries to the Hochstuhl. Beautiful and not quite easy route with an alpine character.
From the Stouhütte, follow the summer track to the Johannsenruhe (~1250m). After the Johannsenruhe, ascend a little steeper along the right (western) valley edge. At about 1400m elevation, you reach the treeless terrain of the Hochstuhlkars. There, turn south and climb higher beneath the walls of the Hochstuhl, then keep slightly to the right to bypass the blocking rocks (Grüne Ries). At about 1900m elevation, you reach a steep gully, over which the ski mountaineer reaches the ridge (crampons required). From the ridge, ascend via the west shoulder to the summit of the Hochstuhl.

Secure ski technique is required for this ascent variant. After heavy new snowfalls, the Hochstuhlkar should be avoided, as large avalanches can break off from the northern walls.
By car via the B 85 or L 106 to Feistritz/Rosental. From there, on a paved road into the Bärental to the Stouhütte.
Parking lot at the Stouhütte
The Hochstuhl is a classic spring route. After snowy winters, it can sometimes still be done at the end of April. Usually, it is already possible to drive by car further into the Bärental to the summer parking lot below the Johannsenruhe.
