Habitat route - The beech forest in the Solling large loop (LRR 1)
The habitat route - The beech forest in the Solling large loop (LRR 1) is closed from 24.02.2025 until further notice.
From the parking lot very close to the mountain lake, the route initially leads steeply uphill for just under 600 m on a natural path. Depending on rainfall in the days before, this ascent can be very slippery. At the top, you will reach a small forest junction and encounter a gravel path. From this junction, you can take a short detour to the left (also a natural path, about 400 m round trip) to some particularly mighty beeches. At the end of the detour, you will find two information boards about the trees at this spot. However, follow the circular trail to the right on the gravel path. This first leads further slightly uphill. After just under 400 m, you will reach another small forest junction. Here you walk about 500 m on a fairly level stretch straight ahead. You reach an open area and encounter a signpost, after which you turn right and go into denser forest. The natural path then soon leads steeply downhill, watch out for slippery conditions! After about one kilometer you have made it and reach a firmer gravel path, on which you turn right. After 50 m you turn right again and follow a narrow gravel path initially steeply uphill, then on flatter terrain, always going straight ahead. After about 600 m, you turn left and after a few meters turn right into the forest, past a small pond. Now follow the narrow path through the forest. After 100 to 200 m, you turn left onto a somewhat wider, often clayey natural path. After another good 100 m of slight downhill you reach a more open place. The path then continues on a wider gravel path until after almost 150 m you again turn left onto a narrower path. This path runs above the mountain lake, which you can see at some points. After about 300 m of slight downhill and uphill on this path, you return to the starting point at the parking lot by the mountain lake.
The habitat route is marked on both sides in either direction of travel.
The habitat route beech forest runs mostly on earthy, grassy natural paths. Depending on the weather, the paths can therefore be slippery and sometimes muddy. Since there are also steeper ascents and descents on this route, please pay special attention to suitable sturdy footwear!
