This route is perfect for a family hiking day: The starting point itself, the "Mesekendahl Game Enclosure" near the A45, is an absolute magnet for the little ones. You can meet wild boar, red fox, and raccoon here; the goats are super cute and very greedy. Pony rides and wagon rides by prior arrangement (www.wildgehege-mesekendahl.de).
Via Sonnenscheid – with sunny views over the expanse of Sauerland – the path gently descends into the Brenscheider Bachtal, where the homonymous watercourse flows into the Nahmerbach. Two historic water mills, an oil mill and a grain mill, from the first half of the 19th century, provide an exciting impression of the laborious production of food before industrialization.
Trout are bred in the fish ponds on the Brenscheider Bach. Sold fresh or smoked in the restaurant "Brenscheider Mühle" (www.brenscheider-muehle.de). In summer, the beer garden is an attraction.
The starting point of the hike is the information board at the parking lot at Mesekendahl. Keep to the right and follow the hiking sign of the circular trail A3 below Mesekendahl. At the forest intersection, leave the A3 to the left towards the village of Brake. From there, an asphalt road leads to the heights of the Schalksmühle district Sonnenscheid. You walk through the small village and again follow the A3 along the course of the Nahmerbach. In the valley, you will reach the cultural monument "Brenscheider Mills". A detour is worthwhile. Otherwise, follow the A3 sharply to the left back to the starting point in Mesekendahl.
