In the food park, you can take a brisk walk and simultaneously enjoy the park's produce. The food park route is approximately a 1.4-kilometer park circuit during which the hiker gets to know fruit trees, berry bushes, and other useful plants meant for the enjoyment of locals and visitors. The route is mostly flat but has no winter maintenance. There is plenty to marvel at even for the youngest family members, as in the park you can taste tart currants, study the growth of pears, or bite into an apple as a snack.
The food park located in Porin Hevosluoto is Finland's first public food park. Its main themes are urban gardening, local food, and community, which is why its maintenance is organized with the help of local residents and various groups, such as schoolchildren.
The route belongs to Pori's national urban park, a network of the most valuable green spaces and parks in the city center. Along the urban park’s routes, you will find much interesting nature and cultural history; see more at: National Urban Park Story Map
The route starts in summer from the end of Niittäjänsilta bridge that crosses over the Kokemäenjoki river. From the bridge, you walk along the river towards Kirjurinluoto. The route makes a few loops around the food park area, see the map! Return the same way back. You can also access the food park from the parking area reserved for it next to the park.
