His Tour in the OstseeFerienLand

Of course, we start at the most historic place: KLOSTER CISMAR. The former Benedictine monastery from the 13th century is a very special place of art and culture. 450 years after the dissolution of the monastery, the second largest monastery complex in Schleswig-Holstein, built in the style of North German Brick Gothic, is now a place of relaxation and inspiration. Be sure to visit the world-famous reliquary shrine from 1300 in the MONASTERY CHURCH, the oldest carved winged altar in art history. Afterwards, refresh yourself at the MONASTERY CAFÉ & FOUNTAIN HOUSE (Bäderstraße 42, www.kloster-cismar.de/cafe/ ) for the His Tour.

Now continue to Grönwoldshorst, then turn left via GUTTAU to GRUBE. Here you can make a detour into the town to visit the venerable ST. JÜRGEN CHURCH from the 13th century with its valuable winged altar (15th century). An unusual attraction there is also the approximately 6,700 sqm PAASCH-EYLER-PLATZ, named after Captain Heinrich Paasch. Here you will also find one of the many land art pieces from the OstseeFerienLand "The Traveller and the Fisherman." You can find both when you enjoy the view from the terrace. When hunger strikes, simply stop by the RESTAURANT AKROPOLIS (Bei der Kirche 1) and enjoy delicious Greek cuisine.

Freshly fortified, you cycle via DAHMERFELDE to DAHME and stop if interested at the Protestant Lutheran GEROLD CHAPEL ON WITTENWIEWERBARG (White Women’s Hill). Under a small hill lie the remains of a MOTTE-AND-BAILEY CASTLE from the 13th and 14th centuries.

Then continue along the Baltic Sea Coastal Cycle Route to the landmark of Dahme, the lighthouse DAHMESHÖVED built in 1878/79. Now you cycle on the dike to KELLENHUSEN.

There you will find the ST. PETRI CHURCH inaugurated in 1961 with the beautifully designed stained-glass window by glass artists from Oberglogau. Another highlight follows: the Baltic Sea Coastal Cycle Route to GRÖMITZ with a GREAT VIEW over the Baltic Sea. Upon arrival in GRÖMITZ, visit the ancient ST. NICOLAI CHURCH from 1259. Ride through Grömitz and make a TOP DETOUR: to the GRÖMITZ KATENRÄUCHEREI, where you can enjoy original Grömitz smoked ham (Körnickerfeld 14).

Back on the route towards NIENHAGEN, an UNIQUE PANORAMIC VIEW over the Lübeck Bay awaits you on the hill at the HOTEL KRÄHENBERG. Behind Nienhagen, you pass the SIEVERSHAGEN FOREST, where many ancient burial mounds can be discovered. Then pass by GUT SIEVERSHAGEN with its beautiful chestnut and oak avenue.

Passing MANHAGEN and the MANHAGENER HOF estate, you go under the A1 to the next destination: LENSAHN. Be sure to visit the MUSEUM FARM established in 1996. There you can experience, try out, and touch historical agriculture and old crafts. In the cozy inn, enjoy Holstein cuisine. Well satisfied, continue along the L58 via KABELHORST to CISMARFELDE.

If you are thirsty, quench it with fresh farm milk at the MILK STATION from Hof Steensen (Cismarfelde 16). Here you can also see the first land art piece of the OstseeFerienLand, "The Tuber." You can stock up on delicious smoked products at the MEIER COUNTRY BUTCHERY (Cismarfelde 10, www.fleischerei-meier.de ). Pay attention to the STONE MEMORIAL COLUMN at the intersection near the Waldorf Kindergarten. Here pilgrim ways from all directions crossed to the Cismar monastery. Now it is only a short way back to KLOSTER CISMAR.

If coming on the A1 from Lübeck-Hamburg, please use the Grömitz Pelzerhaken exit.

Then turn right onto federal road B 501 toward Grömitz and follow the signs to Cismar.

The transportation of bicycles is not permitted on every bus trip. If the bus is already very full of passengers, the bus driver may refuse to allow bicycle transport.
