Panoramic hiking around the Texel Group Nature Park

100 kilometers, countless vistas, and pure Alpine bliss: the Merano High Mountain Trail is one of the most stunning loop trails in the entire Alps. At an altitude of around 1,400 meters, it circles the Texel Group Nature Park – South Tyrol’s largest nature park – and connects the Merano basin with the Vinschgau Valley, Schnalstal Valley, and Passeiertal Valley.

Along the way, Alpine and Mediterranean landscapes alternate beautifully. The trail is divided into a northern and a southern route. In the north, the Eisjöchl (2,895 m) awaits as the highest point of the hike. The southern part, however, winds gently along the sunny slopes of the Texel Group, offering views of apple orchards, vineyards, and historic villages.

Algund is located directly on the southern section of the trail – making it the perfect starting point for a multi-day trek or individual day stages. The panorama overlooking the cultural landscapes of the Burggrafenamt, the lower Vinschgau, and the Passeiertal Valley is particularly impressive.

The southern stages are usually accessible from May to November – some sections even year-round, depending on the weather. For the complete loop, you should plan for 3 to 8 days, depending on your pace and stage length. You can start the circular hike from any town along the route.
