A stroll along the scenic traffic-free promenade past small boat harbours and play areas is a relaxing experience and opportunity to sit on one of the red benches along the way and enjoy the ever-changing hues and moods of Lake Brienz. Not many other Swiss lakes can boast a promenade like the one at Brienz. The original promenade was built in the years 1911-1915. In 1990, a freak storm devastated large sections of it, making it necessary to shore up huge boulders along the lake wall to prevent erosion and further damage. The promenade was soon rebuilt and direct lake access makes bathing from the walls, stone steps and rocks a very popular summer pastime with locals and visitors alike.
