Nagold valley cycle path - from the mouth to the source (Pforzheim-Urnagold)

Section 1 – From Pforzheim to Bad Liebenzell

We start our route at Pforzheim main station and ride along Bahnhofstraße up to Leopoldstraße. Turn left there and follow it to the Enz. At the Enz turn left into Schlossgatter street. Here continue to the next bridge. Then cross the bridge to the right and cross the Enz. On the left you can see where the Nagold flows into the Enz.

At the church we keep left and then turn right into Nagoldstraße.

We follow this, cross Jahnstraße at the underpass. At km 1.3 turn right and ride until Kanalstraße. There turn immediately left into Kallhardtstraße. Follow this to the end and go straight through the park until Blaichstraße. Turn right there and then immediately left onto the Nagold valley cycle path. At km 2.1 keep left and follow the Nagold valley cycle path on the right side of the Nagold for another 3.6 km. At km 5.7 turn right into Belremstraße. This leads behind Dillweißenstein to a turnaround. Here we make a sharp left turn to then turn right again into Belremstraße. Please keep the lanes. We now follow the Nagold valley cycle path (always on the right of the Nagold) until km 12.1. There turn left and pass under the B463. Now it continues to the right through a left curve and we cross the Nagold. At the wider street ahead, turn right. Continue until km 12.8. There turn right, continue on the signed Nagold valley cycle path past a beautiful natural stone landscape, passing Unterreichenbach on the left. Behind Unterreichenbach we cross railway tracks and continue left past Dennjächt to the lovely Monbachtal (km 18.0), where we cross the tracks twice again. In this very scenic valley, our first break is recommended before we continue to follow the cycle path between the Nagold on the right and the tracks on the left until Bad Liebenzell.

Section 2 - From Bad Liebenzell to Calw

We enter Bad Liebenzell on Ulmenweg. Continue on Regularstraße along the Nagold riverbank until km 21.2. There turn left and immediately right into Reuchlinweg, passing behind the spa and continuing for another 2.8 km.

In Ernstmühl at km 24.0 turn right, cross the railway tracks and then turn into Ernstmühler Weg. Stay on this path until behind the cemetery in Hirsau. There (at km 25.5) cross Liebenzeller Straße and continue following the Nagold valley cycle path toward Calw. At km 26.1 cross the Nagold and turn left into Uhlandstraße. This street becomes Hirsauer Wiesenweg. Follow this along the right side of the Nagold to the entrance of Calw.

Section 3 – From Calw to Nagold

Passing the Calw fire station, cross the intersection straight into Inselgasse. Now follow Lederstraße (!!! walk speed here!!!) through the beautiful old town of the Hermann Hesse city of Calw. At Sparkassenplatz turn right into Salzgasse and immediately left into Marktstraße. Passing the Hermann Hesse fountain, keep right and continue on Badstraße. This becomes Walkmühleweg. At about km 31.0 it becomes Weg Tanneneck. At the end turn right onto the cycle path along B463 and follow it for 2.9 km. Now you have to ride a short piece on the street, take the second exit in the roundabout. If you want to make a detour to Bad Teinach, follow L347. That is about 7 km and 50 hm more.

Otherwise, from L347 turn left onto L348 towards Neubulach.

After about 200 m turn left onto the Nagold valley cycle path. Follow this now until Kohlerstal. There keep right and at the end turn left. Continue on the cycle path to Seitzental. There at km 39.0 turn left and continue toward Nagold on the cycle path on the right side of the Nagold.

At km 42.6 leave Kengelweg, turn right, pass under the railway tracks and turn left into Saronweg. Follow this until the end shortly behind Wildberg station, cross the tracks again and turn left into Talstraße. Follow this until km 43.8. Here turn left and before the bridge turn right onto the cycle path. Follow this now until km 44.1, cross the Nagold, continue right after the bridge until Klosterstraße. Here you pass a motorhome parking and right past the monastery. Continue on the cycle path, keep right at the next fork and pass a campsite and a power station.

At Pfrondorfer Mühle, go a short piece on the street again. After a short climb, at km 50.7 turn right onto the cycle path again. After a short steep descent (please pay attention to direction!), cross the Nagold on the right. After the bridge, turn left and follow the cycle path parallel to B463 until km 52.3, pass under the federal road (also pay attention here to direction!), after a short climb, turn right and keep left at the next fork, heading directly to the entrance of Nagold.

Section 4 – From Nagold to Altensteig

Passing the motorhome parking and the Nagold depot, continue towards the town center.

At km 54.6, turn left, cross the Nagold and after the bridge, turn right onto Neuwiesenweg. This then becomes Weg Unterem Wehr. At km 55.9 turn right, cross the bridge and at the statue keep left. Then take the second path on the right, the next fork left and Weg Am Schlossberg past the outdoor pool until a large parking lot. Ride straight over this and follow the cycle path along B28 to Rohrdorf. There follow Nagolder Straße until km 61.6. Now cross B28 and continue right, through Ebhausen. Please note the unclear junctions crossing the cycle path here!

Follow the Nagold valley cycle path until km 66.6. Here a slight climb and the cycle path merges onto L348 coming from Wart. Continue straight on Warter Straße always on the right side of the federal road until the roundabout before Altensteig.

Section 5 - From Altensteig to the source

After the roundabout, slightly turn right into Bahnhofstraße and follow it. Bahnhofstraße turns into Rosenstraße and ends at Karlstraße. There turn left, cross the Nagold and after the bridge turn right onto Poststraße. At the next large intersection turn right onto Gustav-Werner-Straße, L351. Now go straight for a long time. Continue on L362 through the beautiful nature reserve, past numerous ponds, past Neumühle, always along the right side of the Nagold. At km 76.2 keep left and at the following fork again left.

Pass Völmlesmühle to Pfaffenstube. There at km 79.0 turn left and continue following the Nagold valley cycle path. After a short steep descent, cross L362. Please be especially careful at this point!!

Now it goes uphill to the Nagold reservoir. Follow the cycle path and ride to the right along the two lakes. Please pay attention to the posted safety instructions and other guests of the Nagold reservoir! After a short break at the info pavilion, cross a small bridge, pass the New Apostolic church up to the street and turn right. At the roundabout take the second exit towards Schernbach. At km 84.3 turn left, follow the cycle path for 600 m and keep left again.

Now we follow the Nagold valley path uphill, past Pfeiflessägmühle until the cycle path becomes K4774. Follow this and pass a sawmill until km 89.4. Now turn left into Birkenweg, past Gasthof Zur Forelle. At the next fork keep right and follow the path up to Seewald. At the intersection with Brunnenstraße turn right and at Kniebisstraße again right. Follow Kniebisstraße, cross Nagoldtalstraße, continue straight on Urnagolder Straße and ride up to the cemetery. Here turn right into Wildbader Straße and ride parallel to B294 until km 93.4. There turn left. Then immediately turn right into Gewerbestraße. Go straight until after a long right curve you reach B294 again. Cross it and follow the Nagold valley cycle path the last few meters of our route on gravel up to the source of the Nagold.

Start source Urnagold - Besenfeld:

By bus: To Besenfeld.
By car: B294 to Besenfeld - Urnagold.
