Via the Günztal cycle path, the route goes from Ottobeuren towards Hawangen and further through the beautiful Günztal to Westerheim. We follow the green cycle signage towards Holzgünz, which houses a pretty castle with an equally beautiful castle church. Via Schwaighausen, the route continues to Trunkelsberg. Shortly thereafter, we reach Memmingerberg. Along the way, the legacy of the Allgäu water doctor, Pastor Sebastian Kneipp, appears—in the form of a maintained foot-wading facility integrated into the stream, commonly found in the region known as Kneipp Land Unterallgäu. Upon arriving in Memmingen, we watch for the green signs pointing to Benningen. After a short ride, the small nature reserve “Benninger Ried” awaits us, the only habitat of the Benninger Riednelke. A museum provides information about the valuable reserve, its fauna, and flora. The museum and café are open Saturdays and Sundays from April to October. From Benningen, the route follows the road to Hawangen. After leaving the village, the path branches left into the Günztal. Shortly thereafter, we reconnect with the Günztal cycle path and ride back to Ottobeuren.
