In August 1908, the artist couple Wassily Kandinsky and Gabriele Münter, as well as Alexej Jawlensky and Marianne von Werefkin, moved to Murnau. The region around the Staffelsee then became the place of their inspiration. On the art walk through Murnau, you have the opportunity to follow the motifs of the painters and also learn exciting and interesting facts about the artist movement "The Blue Rider" in the museums - the Münter House and the Murnau Castle Museum - as well as view the artists' works.
First, you walk through the cultural park. After the pond, go right over the railway tracks and continue to the Münter House. Then turn left into Kottmüllerallee. Across a crossing and then through the Feneberg parking lot, you reach Untermarkt. Over the Kirchsteig, continue to Bauhoferweg. Through the cemetery gate, walk right alongside the cemetery wall. At the end of the path, before the cemetery wall, turn left to the Münter grave. Through the mortuary hall, you reach Mayr-Graz-Weg on the right. After the school building, a footpath leads you through the small park. On Schloßbergstraße first go right, then after the farmhouse left to Lindenburgweg and again left to Viehmarktplatz. Then go right into Schloßbergstraße and then into the castle courtyard. Cross the courtyard and go up the stairs to the right into Pfarrstraße and immediately left into Grüngasse. After Maria-Hilf-Church, go right along the pedestrian zone to the Griesbräu garden. Through the courtyard of the Griesbräu, then walk along Petersgasse and then into Postgasse. Now you return to the starting point at the Murnau Cultural and Conference Center.
