The starting point is the parking lot on Gustav-Stein-Straße in Eldern (1 km south of Ottobeuren). Alternatively, you can walk from the market square in Ottobeuren along Luitpold- and Ludwigstraße towards the cemetery. There, continue following the signs for "Schelmenheide-Runde." At the parking lot in Eldern, there is a nice foot spa where you can refresh yourself wonderfully before and after the hike. Right next to it is the publicly accessible community garden of the Fruit and Horticulture Association.
The route starts on quiet paths heading south along the edge of the forest. At the height of the golf course further south, the path leads through the shady woods. The varied route profile shows that you are already in the Alpine foothills. After a short stretch along the stream, the path turns north, uphill towards Guggenberg. From there, you have a beautiful view of Ottobeuren and the basilica. Along the Geisbach stream, the path leads back to the starting point.
Good to know:
In Ottobeuren at the market square, there are numerous places to eat with all kinds of culinary variations. Tip: The cheese specialty shop "Käsundso" on Bahnhofstraße serves cheese spaetzle for lunch every Thursday.
Every year on Whit Monday, the pilgrimage procession from Ottobeuren to the chapel of St. Maria in Eldern takes place. The pilgrimage legend dates back to the mid-15th century.
