The Elbe cycle route is a classic among German river cycle routes, and the section in the Altmark is something very special. It takes us through 2 Hanseatic cities, Werben and Tangermünde, past the oldest Romanesque church north of the Alps, and through the most beautiful river landscapes of the Elbe. Starting and finishing by bike and train is easy to reach. This route condenses the Elbe cycle route adventure into a day tour.
After just a few meters, it goes from Wittenberge across the Elbe to the left bank of the Elbe cycle route. We simply follow the Elbe southwards until the mighty city walls of the Hanseatic city Tangermünde and the Gothic brick buildings welcome us. Here we let the route end in the historic old town.
Along the way we find Romanesque churches and the smallest of the German Hanseatic cities, the Hanseatic city of Werben.
The Elbe floodplains with their storks and natural landscapes inspire us again and again, and we enjoy the ride without any climbs.
