Loop of Monte di Ragogna

From the castle parking lot, take the dirt road which, as the CAI 813 route, runs along the river then follow its signs until you reach a hairpin bend on the paved road Via del Monte (ignoring the Las Cengis mule track) on which continue to the next hairpin bend (panoramic point with bench) and resume the path that skillfully climbs along the ridge line, diving into the woods and crossing numerous World War I structures. Continue along it among ups and downs and views of the Tagliamento and the hills until you reach the little church of San Giovanni in Monte, the remains of the hermitage of San Giovanni, and a monument in memory of the fallen.
From the plateau with the panoramic point, follow the paved road which you leave after about a hundred meters to continue along the dirt road (CAI 813) that crosses the southern side of Monte di Ragogna. Along the road you find signs on the left to reach the viewpoint hosting the heart visible from San Daniele del Friuli. Continue downhill on the dirt road paying attention to the CAI markers on the right, which indicate the continuation of the path in the woods. Pass beside the ruins of a mill and reach the village. Continue first on via dai Roncs and then on via dell'amicizia returning to the castle parking lot.

Along the loop, water sources are scarce or absent; on particularly hot days, consider carrying an adequate amount of water supplies.
Pay special attention to the numerous paths in the area to avoid losing the trail.

Throughout the route, there is abundant and detailed signage about the historical events of the area; it is recommended to read them to deepen a little-known page of history.
During summer weekends, the castle of Ragogna is open for visits and guided tours are possible by appointment.
