The Weiss Trail is dedicated to the mountaineer and naturalist from Trieste, Tiziana Weiss, who lost her life very young while climbing in the Pale di San Martino in the summer of '78. The Weiss Trail is also known as the Sage Trail due to the incredible scent of wild sage that lingers along the route. One of the most panoramic trails of the Trieste Karst, it runs along the karst edge from Santa Croce to Aurisina, offering spectacular views on clear days over the Grado lagoon, the Gulf of Trieste, as far as Punta Salvore (Croatia) and the Friulian mountains. The white karst stone, juniper bushes, and sumac (also called skotano), and inevitably sage, are the protagonists of this perfect place to fully savor the Trieste Karst. The trail, about 2.5 km long, is easy to walk (not suitable for strollers or prams due to the uneven ground), with a gentle slope and lasts just over an hour.
