Canoe River Lahn Stage 03 Wettenberg-Wißmar to Gießen-Wißmarer Bridge

The entry and exit point Wettenberg-Wißmar is located on the right bank of the Lahn. From here, you continue paddling downstream. Right at the beginning, an approximately 100 m long rapid demands your attention. Passing the Badenburg, you reach the entry and exit point Gießen-Wißmarer Bridge on the left Lahn side behind the highway bridge.

Paddling is fun in any weather. Protect yourself in cool and damp weather with a water- and windproof jacket with a hood.

In sunshine, the intensity of the sun is often underestimated because it feels pleasantly cool on the water. Protect yourself with headwear against too strong sun exposure. Shoes do not have to be nice, but above all must fit firmly. The best are lace-up, sports, or special paddling shoes.

For storing spare clothing and valuables, waterproof barrels or dry bags are recommended. If you book your tour through a canoe tour operator, they will provide them to you. Store your electronic devices only in waterproof containers!

The Lahn must not be navigated upon reaching the HWS (Highest Water Level for Shipping)! The HWS is a precursor to flooding. You can find the current Lahn water levels here. A brief explanation of the water level displays is compiled here.

With the QMW canoe seal (Quality Management Water tourism), you recognize certified providers of canoe tours and rentals. This award is given to businesses that support the preservation of nature and water landscapes and offer their guests safe and professional quality. These companies work with trained staff, have environmentally friendly operations, and constantly optimize safety and practical signposts for their guests. They definitely provide life jackets free of charge because safety should not cost anything!

Always wear the life jackets when you are on the water, and especially make sure that no child is seated in the canoe without a life jacket.

If you are travelling with a canoe tour operator, let yourself be thoroughly instructed in canoeing. Have them give you a river description which you can take with you on your river trip. The river description should provide information on all entry and exit points, rest and overnighting places, as well as special natural areas marked on a map. Additionally, you should be briefed on the particular natural features of the respective river. If you are on your own, get maps containing this necessary information. Via L 3093 to Wißmar Lake. Car access to the campsite is possible.

Take bus lines 800, 801, or GI-44 to the Wettenberg-Wißmar stop, Ruttershausener Straße. From there, the entry and exit point Wettenberg-Wißmar is reachable on foot (approx. 850 m).

In the RMV area, that is in the Hessian Lahn valley, the canoe ticket is recommended!

Car access to the entry and exit points Wettenberg-Wißmar and Gießen Wißmarer Bridge is possible.
