Canoe tour Lahn from Solms-Oberbiel to Weilburg

The stage starts at the Solms-Oberbiel lock house. The embarkation and disembarkation point is located just behind the lock. Shortly after the start, you paddle through another self-service lock at Niederbiel. The Lahn then picks up some speed and soon you reach the Schohleck campsite, which is a good spot for a break. With a good current, you continue on to the Leun youth campsite; there is only a small rapid, but the livelier current of the Lahn makes paddling easier. From Löhnberg Selters, you can already see from afar the Lahneburg castle ruin on a rock above Löhnberg. In Löhnberg, you pass the self-service lock and then paddle in calm waters to the residential town of Weilburg.

Green information boards visible from the water mark the embarkation and disembarkation points or resting places specifically designated for water hikers. Landing paddle boats is only allowed at these points. The start and end of a boat trip are only possible at embarkation and disembarkation points. Resting places can only be reached from the water; there is no car access here.

Paddling is fun in all weather. Protect yourself in cool and damp conditions with a water- and windproof jacket with a hood.

In sunshine, the intensity of the sun is often underestimated, as it feels pleasantly cool on the water. Protect yourself with a head covering against strong sunlight. Shoes do not have to be pretty but must fit securely. The best are lace-up, sports, or special paddling shoes.

For storing spare clothing and valuables, waterproof barrels or dry bags are recommended. If you book your tour through a canoe tour operator, they will provide them for you. Store your electronic devices only in waterproof containers!

The Lahn must not be navigated when reaching the HWS (highest navigation water level)! The HWS is a precursor to flooding. You can find the current Lahn water levels here. A brief explanation of the water level displays is provided here.

These companies definitely provide you with life jackets free of charge, because safety should cost nothing!

Always wear life jackets when you are on the water, and especially ensure that no child sits in the canoe without a life jacket.

If you are traveling with a canoe tour operator, be thoroughly instructed in canoeing. Request a river description that you can take with you on your river trip. The river description should provide information about all embarkation and disembarkation points, rest and overnight places, as well as special natural areas marked on a map. Additionally, you should be informed about the peculiarities of the nature along the respective river. If you are traveling independently, obtain map material containing this essential information. From the direction of Wetzlar or Limburg via the B49. Take the Solms exit. Then via L3283 and K828 to the Solms-Oberbiel lock house.

By train to Albshausen station.
From there you can reach the embarkation and disembarkation point Solms-Oberbiel on foot via Bahnhofstraße in 750 m. 

Or you can take the bus directly to the bus stop Solms-Albshausen Kling Werke.

In Weilburg, the destination of the tour, the station is reachable by foot within a few minutes from both embarkation and disembarkation points.
You can reach it from the Weilburg boat slip embarkation and disembarkation point on foot via the street "am Bootshaus" (by the indoor swimming pool) and Bahnhofstraße in 450 m. 

From the Weilburg-Bleiche embarkation and disembarkation point, you reach Weilburg station on foot via Ahhäuser Weg and the "Eiserner Steg" in 550 m.
