The so-called Franzosenwiesen commemorate the Huguenots and the arduous working everyday life of these religious refugees from France who made this area their home. Today, the Franzosenwiesen are an important nature reserve with moors, swamp forests, forest meadows, heaths, springs, streams, and ponds. Many plants and animals that you can admire here are now very rare in Germany. The so-called Große Badenstein, a striking formation of basalt, bears witness to the earlier quarrying of this rock type on site. Besides this geological peculiarity, legendary places such as the Herrenbänke and the Landgrafenborn also recall life in past centuries in this region. You can almost picture how the landgraves in the 17th and 18th centuries indulged their hunting passion here.
At the Seegerteich hut begins your short marked access path to the Franzosenwiesentour. At the junction, you then turn left into the Franzosenwiesentour and continue clockwise. After a beautiful view of the town of Rosenthal, you enter the Burgwald and after a few kilometers you reach the Herrenbrücke over the Rote Wasser and the Herrenweg - an old carriage route between the castles in Wolkersdorf (demolished) and Bracht. Here, the Franzosenwiesentour and the Rotes Wasser Tour run on a shared route. On the right-hand side, the Franzosenwiesen now appear and on the left, there is a beautiful forest moor. The path continues through the Burgwald, past the Dibbefraustein and the Herrenbänke, until after about 18 km you reach the access path back to the Seegerteich hut.
Sturdy footwear, weatherproof clothing, and a small trash bag are recommended, as there are only a few trash bins along the way. Since there are no opportunities to stop directly on the path, you should bring appropriate provisions.
Since the route mainly runs through forest, the path should not be used during storms.
From Rosenthal, drive towards Roda; just after leaving Rosenthal, take the access road to the Seegerteich hut immediately on the left. Coming from Roda, shortly before the Rosenthal town sign, turn right into the access road to the Seegerteich hut. The Seegerteich hut is well signposted.
The hiking portal in Rosenthal can be reached via the destination stop "Rodaer Str." You can get route information at www.rmv.de. From there, it is still 500 m on foot.
A free hiking parking lot is available at the Seegerteich hut.

For me, the Drusenborn is always worth a longer break. Here you can easily refill your water bottle and take a rest. Sometimes you can also spot the salamanders that live there.
