Over many decades, the Rabisch Gorge was shaped by the Mallnitzbach. The path leads us from Lassach close past the foaming wild creek, which rushes powerfully downwards. A fascinating rockfall scene as well as beautifully shaped pools (erosion basins) can be seen along the hike before finally emerging from the cool twilight of the gorge into the light-flooded high valley of Mallnitz. Several viewing platforms directly above the Mallnitzbach offer a great view of the water. Especially during the snowmelt, the hike is a unique experience. The stage 07 of the Alpe-Adria Trail runs through the Rabisch Gorge!
We take the bus from Mallnitz or coming from Obervellach to the bus stop Lassach bei Obervellach Sonnseite. From there we walk through the village of Lassach, cross the Mallnitzbach, and keep left after the bridge. We continue walking with the creek to our left, past the power plant until we finally reach the starting point of the Rabisch Gorge. We now have the pleasure of hiking about 1.1 km uphill through the gorge, with some viewpoints, lots of nature, the sound of water, short footbridges and bridges offering further experiences in the Rabisch Gorge. After a much too short time, the hike is already over. We return to the road at the height of Hotel Alpengarten and follow it towards the train station or bus stop Dösental junction. Via the promenade path, you reach the center of the mountaineer village Mallnitz.
