The walk starts at Eino Leino house. You can feel the history of this place while you explore the exhibition inside. Outside you will marvel at the gorgeous view to lake Oulujärvi. Take a moment to admire the beautiful countryside before you continue your walk. Cross the main road in front of the house, turn right and keep walking until you reach the old crop storage house and the Emperor´s stables. On your left side you can see the picturesque Paltaniemi church. At the entrance to the churchyard you pass the birth memorial of the famous Kalevala. Take some time to explore the churchyard. There are gravestones of war heroes and Eino Leino´s family grave. When leaving the churchyard, cross the main road and continue straight ahead. In front of you is the old Paltaniemi primary school. On the other side of the road you can find Lanteri´s small shop. Finish off the walk by buying a souvenir to remember your time here. The path along the main road will lead you back to where you started.
From Eino Leino house cross the street and turn right. Follow the path along the road past the crop storage house and the Emperor´s stables until you reach the entrance to the churchyard. Walk through the churchyard and come back to the entrance. Cross the main road and continue straight ahead until you reach the old Paltaniemi primary school. Cross the main road to your left and continue straight ahead to reach Lanteri´s small shop. Walk back and follow the path along the main road to reach Eino Leino house again.
No special equipment or clothing is required. We recommend normal walking shoes.
This cultural walk is very easy to complete. It is meant as a slow walk for you to take your time visiting the sights. No special skills are required. There is no designated path. The walk goes along the main road and follows a gravel footpath. Visitors need to be careful when crossing the road.
The ideal starting point of this walk is at Eino Leino house but you can access it anywhere along the way. The easiest way to get to Eino Leino house is by car.
You can reach Paltaniemi by bus from Kajaani or by boat from lake Oulujärvi.
You can park next to the house. Parking lots are also located next to Paltaniemi school and next to the beach.
There are bathrooms next to the crop storage house. Along the walk you will find several rubbish bins and benches to sit on.
Eino Leino house is open from June to August. There is a summer café and a shop.
