The high-altitude Botanical Garden E. Dioli of Caspoggio loop

The proposed route reaches the high-altitude Botanical Garden E. Dioli of Caspoggio by following an easy loop path accessible to everyone. From the center of the village of Caspoggio, you walk through the characteristic historic center and reach the Negrini district where it is possible to visit the "truna," one of Caspoggio's main ethnographic curiosities. It is a kind of artificial gallery, to which the doors of the surrounding houses faced. From the Negrini district, continue until you reach the starting point of the Cavalèra road, the important mule track connecting Caspoggio to S. Antonio. You climb a comfortable mule track up to the village of S. Antonio, recognizable by the presence of a large white church and the arrival point of the chairlift. Here, we find the recently built high-altitude botanical garden, where dwarf pine, arnica, and orchids coexist in a place fully accessible and usable by visitors. The garden is divided into 8 flower beds and includes about one hundred plant species. Each species is accompanied by signage indicating the identifying botanical characteristics and traditional use in Valmalenco, revealed by an ethnobotanical survey conducted in Valmalenco by the University of Milan (DISFARM).

We recommend doing the return route by making a loop by following either the dirt road or the path (be careful not to take the bike trails) that leads to S. Elisabetta and then Caspoggio. On this route, you find a friendly and charming alpaca farm whose owner Ladina organizes many activities for adults and children.

The garden is open from mid-June to about mid-September, on Saturdays and Sundays.
