Route description:

You begin your route in Mautern on the Danube. Culture enthusiasts will be rewarded right from the start because Mautern has a long Roman historical background and accordingly offers many finds from that time. After you have devoted enough time to the history of Mautern, you leave the town heading towards the river Fladnitz. In this section, you get a wonderful view of Göttweig Abbey. Along the Fladnitz, you cycle downstream towards the Danube. Shortly before the Fladnitz flows into the Danube, you turn onto the Danube cycle path. You now follow this beautiful cycle path from one Danube bend to the next, passing lovely bathing beaches and shaded forests, the Danube restaurant, and the Nibelung city of Traismauer until you finally reach the tributary river Traisen. There you cross the Traisen and ride back to the shore of the Danube.

Here you come to the small community of Zwentendorf on the Danube, which has a special attraction: Austria's first and only nuclear power plant that was never put into operation. You continue along the cycle path, which you leave at Kleinschönbichl and move a bit away from the Danube. You ride on the country road through the two villages Pischelsdorf and Langenschönbichl and further along L 2148 to the river Große Tulln. Having crossed this river, you return on the other side back to the Danube. Here, you cover the next meters on the cycle path before arriving at your intermediate destination, the town of art and gardens Tulln on the Danube. Vibrant water landscapes amid nature, splendid green and garden spaces, and the unique art enjoyment surrounding Egon Schiele, the world-famous painter, await you.

You continue closely along the Danube on the well-developed cycle path. Passing small villages and cool forests, you simply follow the Danube cycle path. Gradually, the famous Vienna Woods come into view. At Greifenstein, you must cross a Danube side arm and continue your ride on the opposite bank. Shortly after Höflein on the Danube, you turn right off the cycle path and ride directly along the Klosterneuburg cut towards the center of Klosterneuburg. This brings you to the end of this rewarding bike route. Klosterneuburg, shaped by the Augustinian Canon monastery Klosterneuburg and embedded in the hilly landscape of the Vienna Woods and the Danube floodplains, lies right on the outskirts of Vienna, just a few kilometers from the center of the vibrant Vienna city center.

You ride on the B 33 to Mautern on the Danube. The WL2 bus line on the south bank regularly stops in Mautern. You can find the bus schedule here
