A large part of your cycling excursion is on specially guided cycle paths, the remaining sections are on side roads with little traffic and settlements, all along the Traisen.
The landscape is varied, the route leads upstream without any major inclines and is also easy for children to manage.
You cycle about 3 km to the bus stop "Göblasbruck-Ortsmitte". Here you board the Radtramper bus at 9:14 and travel to the station "Freiland Alter Bahnhof" (arrival at 9:39). To start the rail cycling route to Türnitz, cycle about 500 m back on the B214 heading north, turn left before the bridge over the Traisen, and then ascend via a built-up ramp to the former railway track.
The cycle path is not asphalted but covered with an asphalt-like surface. This surface is a bit rougher than asphalt but is very well rideable with all bikes except racing bikes.
After a relaxed bike ride of about 9 km away from motorized traffic, which gently goes steadily uphill and through three tunnels, you reach the leisure area in Türnitz with a natural pool including a nice restaurant and a playground, which is suitable for a break.
For those who prefer a bit more excitement, continue a little further along the Traisen and then follow the signs towards the Eibl Jet. Of those built so far, the alpine coaster "Eibl Jet Türnitz" is one of the steepest and most attractive all-weather toboggan runs.
The return trip is effortless along the rail cycling route back to Freiland and from there on the Traisental Cycling Route (crossing the highway before the bridge over the Traisen and access on the right bank of the Traisen to the cycle path. Signage: Traisental Way "4") back to the starting point, the Gasthof Franzl in Wilhelmsburg.
Along the route, there are recommended bike-friendly hosts to stop at. For example, Moti's Beach Bar (chilling directly at the Traisen), the Gasthof Ebner (shady beer garden with large chestnut trees) in Lilienfeld, or Florian's Pond Tavern (sun terrace, playground) just before the destination in Wilhelmsburg.
Via the West Motorway (A1), exit St. Pölten-South, then continue on B20 towards Mariazell. Turn off at the southern city entrance to Wilhelmsburg (left); from here the Gasthof Franzl is clearly visible.
From St. Pölten main station take the Traisen train to Wilhelmsburg station. The Gasthof Franzl is located directly opposite.
Attention: Only limited bike spaces are available.
Free parking at the Gasthof Franzl's private parking lot.
