The start of the tour through the Brand area is characterized by the Ötscher view and the view at the "dead man" into the Erlauf gorge, before you reach Trübenbach via the rock nature trail that Alexander Tollmann created along the panoramic road. The Holzknecht Museum awaits you there and is well worth a visit.
On the way back, you pass the Devil's Church, a hollowed-out rock needle with a legendary past. Now begins one of the most beautiful waterfall trails in Lower Austria, which was built more than 110 years ago by the Scheibbser Gebirgsverein. The trail was renovated to mark the opening of the nature park. Via the Toreckklamm gorge you reach the Toreck, a striking 100 meter long gorge and the narrowest point of the Elauf in the Tormäuern and the Trefflingfall, which plunges 120 meters into the Erlauf in several cascades.
The tour begins at the Sulzbichl Nature Park entrance in Treffling. It passes by the adventure village, and the route follows the Panorama Road. At the “Toreck” and “Toter Mann” landmarks, you can enjoy beautiful views of the Erlauf Gorges. You’ll follow the rock nature trail next to the road, and from “Weitergraben” onward, the trail heads downhill toward Trübenbach.
The return route leads to the Teufelskirche and follows the stream the entire way. At Haus Gerstl, take the right fork and follow the trail through the Toreck Gorge to the Treffling Falls. From here, it’s a 30-minute walk back to Treffling along the well-secured hiking trail beside the Treffling Stream, ending at the Sulzbichl Nature Park entrance.
For more experienced hikers, the tour can be extended to include the Kirchensteig, the Kälberhald, and the Strudeleck, all the way to Haus Gerstl.
Stop for refreshments at the end of the tour at the Trefflingtaler Stube restaurant.
