Weinsbergweg

At the "marker tree," all paths branch off from the village road heading south. At the bench and the overview board, you turn southeast, while the other paths continue downhill to the south. Now you walk over forest roads, passing the impressive rock formation "Saubergmauern" on the left, and after 1 kilometer you reach a rocking stone where you can test your strength. At Dreiblöchlberg (1,000 m), the Ysperklammweg and Lichtbergweg cross your path. You reach the state road and walk 250 meters east to the sign "Weinsbergwiese" (oldest settled area of the region around Bärnkopf). On the ascent over some steps to the summit of Weinsberg, you pass the castle ruins. From the summit plateau (1,041 m), you enjoy a magnificent view. Then you go back to Weinsbergwiese, cross the state road, and after about 500 meters reach the track of the former forest railway (1919 to 1932). Turn left here towards the west to return to Bärnkopf.

Sturdy footwear, functional clothing, sun and rain protection, maps, if necessary telescopic poles, first aid kit (blister plasters), sufficient supplies (snack, muesli bars, fruit, water).

Make sure your chosen route matches your fitness level. Check whether the gastronomy businesses you want to visit along the way are open. Pack your charged mobile phone and maps in your backpack. For cross-border routes, always carry a passport or personal ID.

A1 - West Autobahn; exit Melk - Danube bridge - Danube riverside road - Pöggstall - Martinsberg - Bärnkopf

By train to Ybbs Persenbeug, then by regional bus 780 to Martinsberg Pitzeichen, here change to regional bus 733 to Bärnkopf.
