Circular route Steinbergruine - Ostwig

Steinbergruine (smoke gas chimney from 1854), panoramic views, Alexanderstollen, shelter at the Steinberg. At the start and finish point, there is a water treading basin in the "Elpe" that provides a welcome cool-down after the hike.

The hike starts at the parking lot on the outskirts of Ostwig (towards Gevelinghausen). There is also a hiking sign where the path is marked with "06".

First, we cross the road and follow the trail sign uphill to the Steinbergruine. This first part is a challenging mountain trail winding up the Steinberg. Once at the top, there is a beautiful panoramic view over the Ruhr valley. A seating area invites you to rest, and climbing the Steinbergruine is worthwhile. Then continue on a path to the cross on the Steinberg. Further on, we follow trail sign O6 or the Circular route Steinbergruine on forest and forestry roads towards Gevelinghausen. There, we encounter the Olsberg Kneipp hiking trail but turn right and walk on a narrow path through a spruce forest towards Ostwig. Shortly before the end, we pass the Antoniusstollen. Here, there is an information board with interesting details about the mining history of Ostwig. After a few minutes, we pass the open shelter at the Steinberg and then return to the starting point of the hike.
