At the gates of the former province of La Marche, on a granite spur at the confluence of the Sédelle and the Creuse, stand the ruins of the old Crozant fortress. From 1830 and for a century, this picturesque site inspired many artists such as Maurice Rollinat or Claude Monet, and saw the birth of the Crozant impressionist school.
Since 2011, the Communauté de communes du Pays Dunois has created an interpretive trail on this theme (the Lights of the Sédelle), with original furniture to guide visitors. Creuse, Sédelle, confluence, mill, ruins, panoramas, painting, impressionists, Monet
Start from the Chopeline esplanade, behind the church (view of the fortress ruins).
1. In alignment with the church, take the stairs going down. At the bottom, turn right and immediately left onto a small gently sloping path towards the Sédelle valley. Pass the campsite then turn right onto a wide path (cross, fountain).
2. Follow the Sédelle for 1.2 km to the Pont Charraud (picnic area, Moulin de la folie).
3. Just before the parking and the road, turn left onto a steep path climbing the hillside (dry moorland) and at the first houses, continue straight on the small road.
4. At the D 72, slightly veer left to return to the village of Crozant and the church.
