At the foot of its imposing castle which watches over the Dordogne, Beynac and Cazenac adds to the beauty of its site the pleasures of water and the gastronomy of the Périgord. In the Middle Ages, the defensive site of Beynac became the seat of one of the four baronies of the Périgord. Besieged by Richard the Lionheart and then dismantled by Simon de Montfort, the castle was rebuilt during the Hundred Years' War, taken and recaptured by the armies of England and France, before being restored during the Revolution. The imposing castral complex overlooks the roofs of the village and its blonde facades. Developed between rivers and cliffs, sheltered by an enclosure, Beynac has long lived on the traffic on the Dordogne.
