In Ottensheim, the parish church is under the protection of St. Ägidius. He is one of the fourteen helper saints and the only one who did not die a martyr’s death. Especially in the Middle Ages his intercession and aid was very popular. He was born around 650 AD in Athens and is considered the founder of the Benedictine monastery in Saint Gilles (F) – which is still an important intermediate destination for pilgrims on the Way of St. James.
Ägidius repeatedly spent long periods of his life as a hermit in retreat and drew strength from the silence.

Starting point at the information point at the Danube ferry Ottensheim (Danube promenade). Via the marketplace and Linzerstraße it goes to Niederottensheim. The path leads us towards Dürnberg past the high reservoir to the chapel at Wöginger. From there with breathtaking panoramic views from the Danube valley to the Alpine foreland. From the Nachfahrer it goes downhill again past Schröckinger to the Gasthaus Dürnbergwirt. Following the Danube’s towpath, we reach the starting point again
