Over four days you hike through the most beautiful landscape in the Salzkammergut. Per stage, you walk 5 – 7 hours, all without luggage.
The highlights of the route are the rocky, steep path to the Schober with its distinctive summit cross.
The 4th stage starts comfortably towards the last two peaks - Schober and Frauenkopf.
From Mondsee along the lakeshore on path 10. In the birch avenue, we cross the federal highway towards the Höribach cultural heritage site. With the impressive view of the Drachenwand and the Schober, along rarely used farm roads, it goes up towards the Wartenfels forester's lodge. We start the Schober circular route towards Frauenkopf. The increasingly steep path leads us to the Frauenkopf summit cross with a unique view of Fuschlsee.
Those who are free from dizziness and have made it this far continue to the Schober, a rocky peak with a distinctive cross. At the top, we enjoy the breathtaking view of up to seven lakes. From there, a very steep path leads downhill. The precarious spots are short but can be challenging. Those who do not trust themselves can also descend the known path back via Frauenkopf. Attention: the circular route is a rather difficult and demanding route. In wet, slippery conditions or bad weather, the tour can and should be shortened via hiking path 10 directly to Fuschl am See.
At the foot of the mountain, the Wartenfels ruins with a view towards the Alpine foothills are worth a visit. You return to Fuschl am See via Hochfeld, past the golf course and the Waldhof Alm, which invites you to stop with good cuisine. (Path 10).
In the town of Fuschl am See, you can join the lakeside circular hiking trail (12 km) (path 30) and hike towards Hotel Schloss Fuschl.
Options to shorten:
- skip the Schober circular route and hike directly to Fuschl am See
- in very bad weather, take the luggage transfer or bus directly to Fuschl am See; a walk along the promenade is always worthwhile
Áno
Sturdy footwear and possibly hiking poles are advantageous.
Please note that Schober and Frauenkopf are dangerous hikes in rain and wet conditions (secured paths). Please shorten the tour in bad weather and take the direct path to Fuschl am See at the Wartenfels inn.
Not all catering options are open. Bring enough water and food before you start hiking. Do not expect huts to be open!
Bring cash; especially on huts at Schafberg, cards are not accepted!
Leash obligation for dogs.
