Fountain figure Müüser-Schniider Johannes Jakob Schudel 1849 - 1924 was known his whole life as the "Müüser-Schniider", the "Zundhölzlimaa" and for decades the best-known Begginger. His story can be read in a biography by his great-nephew Ernst Schudel, Hombrechtikon. The fountain figure was gifted to the municipality of Beggingen by the sculptor Esther Danz on the occasion of its 60th birthday. Lachenbruch In Lachenbruch, gypsum was mined in open pit. Gypsum was previously used for fertilizing purposes. In Schleitheim, the Rütistelmühle was the last gypsum mill. Seewibruch The reed sandstone was a sought-after building stone until the beginning of the 20th century. The Seewibruch provided material for the Münsterturm and the monastery buildings at Allerheiligen in Schaffhausen, for St. Blasien and as far as Basel (Elisabethenkirche). Beggingen clay pit Schmalzgasse (Optussuston) Here you can find the shale clay layer of the Black Jura (Triassic), clayey suspended matter deposits of the Jurassic sea. The raw material was used for the brickworks industry. Above the pit, fossil-rich, calcareous Obliqua beds are visible. Beggingen Hohle Gasse The Poseidon shales were deposited in the lower oxygen-poor zone of a sea about 200 m deep around 175 million years ago.
