Wonderful itinerary in the heart of the Langhe to discover its incredible villages. The route starts in the historic center of Alba, then continues towards Roddi with its historic center of the small medieval village and its Castle. It goes on towards Verduno for a break at the splendid Belvedere Park, until reaching La Morra, a true balcony over the Langhe. From here, the route continues to Barolo along the ridge that traces the history of the famous wine, then proceeds towards Castiglione Falletto, before descending to Grinzane Cavour, once home to Count Camillo Benso di Cavour. The last effort is the climb to Diano d’Alba with a 360° view over the Langa before descending towards Alba.
The route starts in the historic center of Alba, a UNESCO Creative City for Gastronomy that in Roman times was the birthplace of an emperor, Publius Helvius Pertinax. It follows a section of cycle path along Corso Europa to continue towards Roddi along the provincial road and then diverts uphill to the historic center of the small medieval village with its Castle, next to which is located the University of Truffle Dogs since 1880. The route continues towards Verduno, where the splendid Belvedere Park, next to the royal castle, offers a chance to rest. From Verduno you then reach La Morra, a picturesque small medieval village, where another Belvedere awaits, a true balcony over the Langhe. From here, there is the possibility for a walk among the vineyards to discover the Barolo Chapel, a masterpiece by Sol Lewitt and David Tremlett, also reachable by bike, although the roads are only partially paved. From La Morra, the route continues towards Barolo along the ridge that traces the history of the famous wine, immersed among vineyards bearing the names of the most famous geographical denominations, to enjoy the lively atmosphere of the small village awarded the orange flag by Touring, visit the WiMu - Wine Museum or the Corkscrew Museum and taste a glass at the Barolo Regional Wine Shop. The route continues towards Castiglione Falletto with its castle featuring a round tower, then returns, with constant ups and downs, to La Morra to immerse again in the vineyards, under the watchful eye of the ancient Cedar of Lebanon standing on the Annunziata hill. From here you descend towards Grinzane Cavour, cross a short stretch of provincial road (attention!) and climb again towards the castle, a UNESCO site and home of the Piedmont Regional Wine Shop, once residence of Count Camillo Benso di Cavour. Take a look at the splendid panorama from the castle garden before tackling the last climb towards Diano d’Alba: its Dolcetto and the 360° view over the Langa surely make this little effort worthwhile before descending towards Alba.
The route crosses a very busy stretch of road between the entrance of SP3 at the exit from Alba and SP7 up to the junction towards Roddi and on SP3 between Garbelletto and the junction towards the Annunziata hamlet of La Morra.
