The route, which develops along the border with the Gran Paradiso National Park, starts just outside the village of Piamprato, running along the homonymous stream and crossing a sparse larch forest. The climb is steady and almost never too steep. Open areas are crossed allowing you to enjoy a fantastic panorama of the surrounding peaks. Next to the route is big bench no. 115 with the idea of observing the landscape from the perspective of children (see the project website).
The Ciavanassa refuge is housed in a beautiful building near the arrival station of the chairlift (closed in winter) in a sunny position and with a wide panorama: a perfect place to catch your breath.
The road leading to the refuge is immediately snowy at the junction with the road that leads to the parking lot near the village (signposts). Follow faithfully the road which after about twenty minutes of walking reaches the departure station of the Prariond chairlift and continues to climb with several hairpin bends until reaching the vicinity of the refuge.
The return is along the ascent route.
