The routes of the Siikaneva circuit run through Pirkanmaa’s most important mire conservation area, which is also one of the region’s most striking mire areas. From forest patches higher than the mire area, there are beautiful views over open mires. Siikaneva is also valuable for its birdlife. The routes mostly follow boardwalks. Siikaneva is a well-known and popular hiking destination especially in summer, but the area is also used for winter hiking with snowshoes and skiing.
Only the southern parking area is in use. The parking area is reasonably sized. Buses operating between Orivesi and Ruovesi stop at the road junction about 3 km from the starting point of the route. Access to the Siikaneva routes is quite well signposted from road 66.
On the terrain, the Siikaneva circuit is marked with blue paint marks either on signs or trees, and the Pikkulatosaaren circuit with yellow marks.
Services: Siikaneva has two campfire sites, each with toilets and a woodshed.
The Pikkulatosaaren circuit, 2.5 km, is a circular route that starts and ends at the parking area. The eastern campfire site is along the short route, only a few hundred meters from the parking lot, and has a campfire ring, woodshed, and toilet.
The longer Siikaneva circuit, 10 km, also starts and ends at the parking area. The western campfire site is along the longer route at Jaarikanmaa and features a lean-to shelter, woodshed, and toilet.
To see: Beautiful views from the Jaarikanmaa lean-to. Along the route, there are nature trail boards describing the mire nature of the area.
The route is part of the Siikaneva mire conservation area and is maintained by Metsähallitus.

Although most of the wetland areas in Siikaneva are boardwalked, you may still encounter wet spots. Waterproof footwear is best, especially in damp weather.
In summer heat, running shoes are sufficient.
It is advisable to bring drinking water!
Having a map with you is a good idea.
During the thaw, mosquitoes, biting midges, flies, and horseflies buzz around the mire area. Autumn brings moose flies.
Arriving by car from Ruovesi:
When coming from Ruovesi, drive approximately 16 km towards Orivesi, then turn right at the road signs (Y-junction) onto Ollinkiventie. Continue over the junction with a gentle curve, leading onto a fairly straight road and the garrison area. Drive along this road for about 2.5 km, after which a wooden sign points right towards Siikaneva. About 500 meters ahead, the area’s parking lot opens up.
Several bus routes operating between Ruovesi and Orivesi (matkahuolto.fi) pass by the junction leading to Siikaneva along highway 66.
The nearest bus stops are along highway 66, right by the junction turning towards Siikaneva. From the bus stop, it is about a three-kilometer walk to Siikaneva.
Please note that only the southern parking area is in use. This parking area also has winter maintenance.
