Canoe River Lahn 25th stage Nassau to Niederlahnstein-Kiesbank

The entry and exit point Nassau is located on the left bank of the Lahn at the Chain Bridge. From here, you tackle the last kilometers of the Lahn. After just 900 m, you reach the Nassau lock, the first of the 5 locks today. It is located on the right side of the Lahn. With a gentle current, you continue downstream. Soon you reach Dausenau with its medieval town center. You pass under a road bridge and soon arrive at the Dausenau campsite. Shortly after, after a total of 5.6 kilometers, you pass through the Dausenau lock on the right side of the Lahn. 

800 m further, the Bad Ems campsite appears on the right. And soon you paddle, under a road bridge, into the imperial city. Two more pedestrian bridges, under which you paddle, and then you look right at the spa park with the Kaiser Wilhelm monument. Behind the spa park, you paddle again under a road bridge. 400 m behind this bridge, you enter the lock channel on the left side of the Lahn. You stay in this channel, including the lock passage, for over a kilometer. 

Another campsite on the right bank of the river and then you paddle under two bridges past the towns of Fachbach (right) and Nievern (left). Nievern also includes the lock, which you reach on the right side after a total of 12.2 km. At Friedrichsegen, the Lahn makes a sharp right turn, and at Friedland, the Ahl lock is up next. This lock is located on the right side at the Lahnbogen campsite.

After almost 1.5 kilometers, you then pass through the Lahnstein lock, the last lock of today's route and also the Lahn before it flows into the Rhine. The entry and exit point Niederlahnstein-Kiesbank is located on the left side, directly at the mouth of the Lahn. 

Paddling is fun in any weather. Protect yourself in cool and damp conditions with a water- and windproof jacket with hood.

In sunshine, the intensity is often underestimated because it feels pleasantly cool on the water. Protect yourself with a head covering against strong sun exposure. Shoes do not have to look good but must fit firmly. The best are lace-up, sports, or special paddling shoes.

For storing spare clothing and valuables, waterproof barrels or dry bags are recommended. If you book your route through a canoe tour operator, they will provide them to you. Store your electronic devices only in waterproof containers!

The Lahn must not be navigated when the HWS (highest navigable water level) is reached! The HWS is a precursor to flood. You can find the current Lahn water levels here. A brief explanation of the gauge displays is available here.

Always wear life jackets when you are on the water, and especially ensure that no child is sitting in the canoe without a life jacket.

If you are traveling with a canoe operator, have yourself thoroughly instructed in canoeing. Have them give you a river description that you can take with you on your river trip. The river description should give information about all entry and exit points, rest and overnight places, and special natural areas marked on a map. Furthermore, you should be introduced to the special features of the nature of the respective river. If you are on your own, obtain maps that contain this necessary information. From Nassau station, you can walk to the entry and exit point Niederlahnstein-Kiesbank in 550 m. Walk along Bahnhofstraße and over the Chain Bridge. The entry and exit point is located to the right of the bridge.
