Lahn Cycle Path 6th Stage upstream Diez/Limburg - Weilburg

The small Oranien town of Diez bids us farewell with two worthwhile castles right away. Both castles, Oranienstein Castle and the Grafenschloss, house interesting museums. In Diez, you will find romantic half-timbered facades and hospitable cafés and restaurants. However, the stage also starts with one of the few noticeable climbs on the Lahn cycle path. After leisurely cycling through the old town of Diez, you go uphill via Pfaffengasse and Oraniensteiner Straße. But after a few hundred meters, you turn left onto the street "zum Mühlchen" and can then cycle more comfortably again.

At Staffel, you leave Rhineland-Palatinate and cycle through Hesse. In Limburg, you should definitely visit the picturesque half-timbered old town. You must have seen the Limburg Cathedral, naturally including the inside. And with the “Römer 2-4-6” you will find one of Germany's oldest free-standing half-timbered houses in Limburg. In the lively lanes, numerous cafés and excellent restaurants invite you to stop by. After strolling through the town, you cross to the other side of the Lahn over the old Lahn bridge and cycle past the outdoor pool to Dietkirchen. High above the Lahn, the St. Lubentius Basilica towers on a rock. Below the basilica, you will find beautiful picnic spots.

From Dietkirchen, you cycle on the same side of the Lahn via Dehrn and past Steeden towards Runkel. Shortly before Runkel, the Lahn is crossed again. Now you cycle through the fairytale-like Runkel on Burgstraße. You should definitely allow some time to visit Runkel Castle. Where the Lahn cycle path crosses the old Lahn bridge to the left, you keep straight for a short detour to the legendary ice cream parlor. Otherwise, you cycle over the stone bridge, which, together with the castle in the background, is a popular photo motif.

Behind the bridge, turn right before the railway tracks, cycle past the train station, and follow the signs to Villmar. The small town is known as the "home of Lahn marble" and a visit to the Lahn Marble Museum with the natural monument Unica Quarry is worthwhile. In Villmar, you change to the opposite side of the Lahn. From here, follow the river course on the same side via Aumenau, Fürfurt, and Kirschhofen to Weilburg. The view of the river and castle invites you to a small town and castle stroll. The stage ends at Weilburg station.

Trekking or touring bike (e-bike or conventional), spare tube and tools, water bottle, and clothing adapted to the weather.

The Lahn cycle path runs mostly on cycle paths, quiet side streets, and field paths. Please still observe the traffic regulations and be considerate of other cyclists, agricultural vehicles, and pedestrians. As with the entire Lahn cycle path, this stage is used at your own risk!

The public transport connection of the Lahn cycle path is excellent.

On the 6th stage are the train stations Limburg (Lahn), Kerkerbach, Runkel, Villmar, Aumenau, Fürfurt, Gräveneck, and Weilburg.

The train connections in Hesse belong to the Rhein-Main Transport Association.
