We take it easy on the first stage upstream, where the Lahn flows into the Rhine at Lahnstein. The castles of Lahneck and Stolzenfest rise romantically above the two rivers. If you are curious to find out where the Lahn has its source, you can explore the Lahn valley from here upstream by bike on this and the following 7 stages of the Lahnradweg.
You quickly reach the sophisticated spa town of Bad Ems. Imperial spa, summer capital of Europe, world spa - and even a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 24 July 2021! Bad Ems is proud to have received this prestigious international honour. As you stroll through the town, you quickly realise that Bad Ems, with its elegant buildings, is deservedly one of the "Great Spas of Europe".
Via Dausenau, whose medieval town centre with its town wall and leaning tower lies on the opposite side of the Lahn, the 1st upstream stage now continues through the nature park to Nassau with Nassau-Oranien Castle perched high on the hill.
Cross the Ottmar Canz Bridge to change sides of the Lahn in Bad Ems and take a short detour along Bahnhofstraße. Passing Bad main railway station, you then return to the Lahn. Almost always touching the Lahn, you follow the well-signposted cycle path to Dausenau. You don't actually change sides of the Lahn here, but a short detour to the medieval town centre with its town wall and leaning tower is well worthwhile.
The Lahnradweg continues along the river to Nassau. Crossing the impressive Lahnbrücke bridge and Bahnhofstraße, you finally reach your stage destination, Nassau railway station. The town in the heart of Nassau Nature Park offers plenty of opportunities to indulge body and soul.
