Practical tips: Parking at Rotgülden costs €8 (2026), payable by card at the barrier. Stay close to the barrier, as it closes quickly after payment—it’s easiest if a passenger pays. You can also start hiking from here, but it adds about 1.5 hours to reach the Muritzen car park. At Muritzen, don’t be alarmed by the electric fence—drive through the plastic gate as intended. At Sticklerhütte, cash only is accepted. The staff are friendly, but the menu is limited, as traditional dining is not their main focus. Further along the trail you’ll encounter increasing numbers of grazing animals. I only recommend this hike with a dog if your dog is calm around livestock, has reliable recall, and you are an experienced dog owner.
Wear hiking boots and bring enough drinking water.
