Walking around Mattsee

The circuit around Mattsee starts at the North lake parking lot and leads you clockwise on easily walkable paths through varied landscapes. Initially, the route runs along a foot and cycle path towards Aug. After the Überfuhr bus stop, a small trail branches off into a marshy forest area – here you immerse yourself in the quiet lakeside world. Through the Aug district, you continue walking along the north shore. The route passes huts settlements and through an ecologically important area: the European protected area "Meadow areas and lakes in the Alpine foothills" and the nature reserve "Nordmoor am Mattsee." Amid dense reed zones and floating leaf fields live rare birds and protected plants – please cross respectfully.

A highlight is the Gebertsham beach, ideal for a summer break. Directly above it towers the Gebertsham filial church, known for its winged altar from the 16th century and the viewpoint bench with lake views. Then continue through shady forest paths with small streams into the Ramoos district. Along Ramooser Straße, you stroll past villas with views of the lake. Via Weyerallee, you reach the Weyerbucht recreation area, right in the center near the Mattsee castle and abbey. Return via the lakeside promenade or the castle hill before you dive into the water once again at the beach and reach the starting point along the Unersee hill.
