We start in Hinterthal at the car park by the church, initially walking along a road before soon reaching a forest path. From the Triefen natural monument (a waterfall of a special kind), we follow a gently ascending footpath towards Enzenalm. We then follow a cart track to rocky terrain. The path now becomes steeper until we reach the Niedere Scharte. We keep to the left and continue hiking up to the Hohe Torscharte.
From Hinterthal, follow trail no. 415 up to the Niedere Torscharte and on to the Hohe Torscharte. We recommend taking the same route down as you took up.

Planning and preparation: Plan each mountain route carefully in advance. Hiking maps and guides, as well as information from alpine clubs and locals such as mountain guides and hut owners, can be helpful.
Equipment: In the mountains, you need the right equipment and clothing, especially sturdy, high-top shoes with grippy soles. Weather and cold protection are essential, as the weather can often change suddenly.
Emergency equipment: Take a complete first aid kit, a mobile phone with a power bank and, if necessary, a satellite phone with you.
Rope teams: For alpine routes with technical sections, it is advisable to climb in rope teams. Practise the correct safety techniques and communication with your partners.
Glacier crossing: Watch out for crevasses and find out about the glacier conditions. Use the correct technique when crossing and always keep a safe distance.
Dealing with altitude: Watch out for symptoms of altitude sickness (headache, nausea, dizziness). Ascend slowly and take breaks to acclimatise.
Weather forecasts: You can find the current weather conditions at: zamg.at or www.uwz
Behaviour: Observe the 10 rules for interacting with grazing animals and do not leave any rubbish behind in nature!
Do not dislodge stones: Avoid stepping on loose stones, as this can seriously endanger other hikers. Marked areas with a risk of falling rocks should be crossed as quickly and carefully as possible.
Turn back: This is not shameful, but a sign of common sense. It becomes necessary when the weather changes, fog rolls in, or the path becomes too difficult or is in poor condition.
Emergency numbers: Alpine emergency number: 140, International emergency number: 112, Ambulance service: 144
