Filzwiese

The hike starts at the Filzmoos Adventure Portal. From here, cross the road and follow the path towards the pilgrimage church “Zum Filzmooser Kindl”. Continue downhill via the Kirchbichl towards the Hotel Bischofsmütze and follow the road to the bridge. Before reaching the bridge, turn left towards the Talschluss (end of the valley). The route passes Intersport Flory on your left. Follow the narrow lane to the Buschhäusl, then continue uphill on the steeper road until you reach the first bend. At this bend, a footpath branches off to the right and climbs into the high forest via a series of steps. After a short distance, you cross the old Hachauer Höhenstraße for the first time. Continue along the forest trail until you reach the road again. Cross it a second time and follow the footpath through the forest until you meet the Höhenstraße once more. Cross the road again and then follow the signposts towards Filzwiese/Bachlalm. The trail winds through peaceful high forest, alternating with small clearings that offer beautiful views of the surrounding mountain scenery. Eventually, you reach Filzwiese, an idyllic destination set amidst the spectacular landscape of the Dachstein Massif. 
Tip: Take a short break at one of the clearings with a bench. From here, you can enjoy magnificent panoramic views of the Bischofsmütze, Rötelstein, Torstein, Mitterspitz, the Dachstein and its impressive south face.

Sudden Weather Changes, Rapid Temperature Drops, Thunderstorms, Wind, Fog, and Snowfields These are objective dangers and require appropriate behavior while hiking. Hut hosts are experienced mountain experts and can provide valuable advice about the weather and trail conditions. Inadequate equipment, overestimation of one’s abilities, carelessness, poor fitness, and misjudgment can lead to critical situations.

In case of thunderstorms: Avoid summits, ridgelines, and fixed-rope sections at all costs.

A good backpack is helpful, and for routes in alpine terrain, a hat, gloves, a good jacket, and pants are essential basic equipment. Sturdy, waterproof footwear, sunglasses, sun protection, and plenty of fluids are also crucial. A flashlight, map material, knife, and a small first aid kit should always be part of your gear.

Available GPS data – like hiking maps – are only intended as orientation aids, as they can never fully represent the exact layout or detail of a trail in reality. Especially in potentially dangerous areas, it is essential to make decisions based on the actual conditions on site regarding whether and how to proceed.

Coming from Eben:  Take the Tauern Motorway A10 – exit at Eben – turn left towards Filzmoos. After approx. 11 km, turn right opposite the gas station. There is a public paid parking lot opposite the gas station.

Coming from Ramsau am Dachstein:

 At the roundabout, take the exit towards Neuberg – shortly after the gas station, turn left. There is a public paid parking lot opposite the gas station.

By Train: Nearest train stations: Eben im Pongau or Radstadt (on the Salzburg – Bischofshofen – Schladming – Graz line).From Salzburg main station, regular trains (approx. every hour) go in that direction. The journey takes around 1 hour.

By Bus or Taxi: From Eben im Pongau or Radstadt, take bus line 521 directly to Filzmoos (approx. 20–30 minutes). Taxis are also available at the station if you prefer a direct ride.Tip: Buses are not very frequent, so it's best to check the schedule in advance at www.oebb.at

With the Fidibus Summer: From Hotel Neubergerhof, the Fidibus Summer (hiking bus) takes you from Neuberg to Filzmoos, stopping at the “petrol station” (village center) bus stop. Click here for the timetable.
