On this easy high-altitude hike, we cross through beautiful alpine meadows and mountain forest as border crossers briefly onto Bavarian soil. During the tour, panoramic views of the idyllic Heutal in Unken and the surrounding mountains on the Austrian and German sides are offered. Small alpine huts and snack stations, a nostalgic chairlift on the Winkelmoosalm, and the former timber rafting site Muckklause provide variety on the path.
From the Alpengasthof Heutal, you hike along the Kaserbachweg to Moarlack and Ochsenbrunn (trail no. 13). Continue on trail no. 14 to the Gföller Mahdern. Over beautiful meadows and through the forest, we reach the idyllic Wielandseitenalm. The path continues almost flat over the alpine pasture and through a forest area down to the forest road (trail no. 15). Via the timber rafting installation Muckklause, we hike to Tanzanger and Winklmoosalm. From the junction, head north to the valley station of the Dürrnbachhorn Nostalgia Chairlift. Then continue towards Dürrnbachalm, where after 100m you have to turn right to get through the forest and over the forest road to Finsterbachalm. Over the alpine meadow and then a bit steeper up the forest, you reach the highest point of the hike, the Gimplingsattel. From here, descend along the lift route to the Wildalm snack station and on the alpine path, return back to Heutal in the Salzburger Saalachtal.
