Start in the center of Neustadt am Rennsteig and cycle along the Rennsteig for about 1.5 km. Then turn left and downhill into the Tannengrund. At the reservoir, follow the signposted circular route past the fore-reservoir and the dam. Return on the same forest path uphill through the Tannengrund back to the Rennsteig. Then follow it again back to the town of Neustadt am Rennsteig.
