The route starts in the half-timbered town of Schmalkalden. Following the signs to the Mommelstein cycle route, you pass Kaufland on the left directly to the path. Keep left, cycle on one of the most beautiful disused mountain railway lines of the Thuringian Forest, to the technical monument "Neue Hütte" and to Floh-Seligenthal. The route leads toward Kleinschmalkalden through a tunnel and crosses the Schmalkalden valley on a natural stone viaduct at a height of 12 m. Following the cycle route further, it goes to the former Auwallenburg station. A short ascent is followed by a descent into the village of Trusetal. Detours towards Brotterode to the Trusetal waterfall or towards Schmalkalden to the visitor mine are possible. The route now follows the Truse cycle route to Breitungen with its historic market square. On the Werra valley cycle route it goes to Wernshausen, here you rejoin the Mommelstein cycle route and return to Schmalkalden.
