Bike tour - 12 - "Scenic bike tour on the EuroVelo 13 – Iron Curtain Trail" Thuringia

Over gentle climbs and scenic passages, you reach Schlegel near Bad Lobenstein. The route runs through forests, open uplands and repeatedly impressive views. Afterwards, the tour continues to Lehesten, a traditional slate town. The historic slate quarries shape the landscape and tell of the region's long mining history. After a possible rest in Lehesten and a detour to the Slate Park, the route continues through quiet wooded areas to Hirzbach. Here, the nature park shows its particularly quiet side: shady forest paths, natural stream courses, and a diverse flora and fauna accompany you on this section. Along the valley of the Sormitz, it finally heads towards the destination.

The tour ends in Leutenberg – the historic town center, lovingly preserved buildings, and the hospitable atmosphere make the town an ideal destination and starting point for further discoveries in the nature park.

The bike tour from Blankenstein to Leutenberg is classified as moderate. Several climbs and a hilly elevation profile require a good basic fitness level. You will be rewarded with intense nature experiences, cultural sights, and impressive views in the Thuringian Slate Mountains Nature Park.
