Ziegenrück - Essbach- Dörflas - Walsburg - Ziegenrück

From the A9 federal motorway From the Berlin direction take exit 27 Dittersdorf and follow L1077 towards Dittersdorf. Continue through the villages of Plothen, Volkmannsdorf, Schöndorf to Ziegenrück generally heading west. From the Munich direction take exit 28 Schleiz and follow L1095 towards Saalburg-Ebersdorf for only about 100m. Turn right at the HEM gas station towards Oschitz. Through the villages Oschitz, Möschlitz, Crispendorf, Erkmannsdorf and Essbach you reach Ziegenrück generally heading northwest.

Came from the west you first reach the town of Saalfeld/Saale via federal road B88 and from there continue via B85 and B281 to the municipality of Unterwellenborn. Pass through the villages Kamsdorf, Bucha and Kalte Schenke via Hohe Straße until Schmorda. Here turn right at the intersection to Moxa and then on to Ziegenrück.

You can reach Ziegenrück by bus. Choose the Saalestraße bus stop and walk about 140m along Plothental street towards the railway viaduct at the intersection.

From the Gera main train station, walk 300m to the bus station and take the bus line 810 to Schleiz. Here, change at the bus station and take the bus line 966 to Ziegenrück. (Return times).

From the Saalfeld/Saale main train station, walk 100m to the bus station and take the Thuringian Sea hiking bus, line 590 to Ziegenrück. (Return times).

With the Thuringian Sea hiking bus, you can explore from Saalfeld on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, as well as Sundays and public holidays from May 1 to October 31 the Hohenwarte reservoir trail. You can conveniently do one selected or all four stages - the Thuringian Sea hiking bus brings you in the morning to the stage start and back to your starting point after your hike.
