The hike begins in the world champion town of Gumpelstadt and follows almost the entire Pummpälzweg over the Rennsteig to Wartburg and back again, this time through the Drachenschlucht to Hohe Sonne, Wilhelmsthal Castle and Park, Altenberger See with camping park and Luther's birthplace Möhra before returning to Gumpelstadt.
In Gumpelstadt at the church of St. Georg is the login station of the "Digipälz", from where you head northwards on the Pummpälzweg. Above the last houses of the village rise the two rocks of Holle Stein, which were coral reefs of a shallow tropical sea 250 million years ago. An info station of the Pummpälzweg presents wooden sculptures of the Nordic gods. Then the route continues through the idyllic Gauchsthal with another info station, now with war figures from the Thirty Years' War. From there the Thuringian Forest begins and the hiking trail winds with a pleasant incline along the former duke's carriage road to his forester's house at Kissel with another login station. Westwards the path now leads slightly downhill past two more Pummpälz locations with spooky legends. Then uphill again to the Rennsteig at Neue Wiese, where Norwegian woodcarving students have depicted the Nordic mythology. From here you follow the Rennsteig and Pummpälzweg quite a stretch westward and slightly downhill. After 1 km you reach the legend station of the Wuwwerbözzer from the Pummpälz with login station and the nearby mountain inn Hubertushaus with its highly recommended cuisine. After another nearly 5 km you reach the most famous and most frequented place on the Rennsteig - Hohe Sonne. Although the former hunting lodge of the Weimar-Eisenach dukes awaits restoration, every visitor will recognize the central importance of this place. The login is located above the bus stop. The snack bar offers good Thuringian sausages. Further towards Wilder Sau it goes slightly uphill and downhill. There the Pummpälzweg leaves the Rennsteig and meets the Jacobsweg to the Wartburg. In between you can take a break at Sängerwiese, if the forest inn is open. There is also a Pummpälz spot. The last kilometer to Wartburg is uphill. There under the drawbridge are wooden sculptures and the login, and of course waits the most German of all German castles, the world-famous Wartburg. Half of the way is done and backwards you go to Sängerwiese, then down to one of the most visited gorges, the wild and romantic Drachenschlucht. Above at Hohe Sonne you should not forget the repeated login and then on the eastern side of B19 take the descent via Hochwaldgrotto to Wilhelmsthal Castle and Park. From there you reach directly Altenberger See with camping park, opposite its reception the login is located. You leave the park over a beautiful meadow valley up to Eichberg, without passing through the lower Eterwinden. Up there the Sallmanshäuser Rennsteig is reached, which is followed for a short distance. Above the Suhl spring you separate at Mörschen Kuppe and go down to the valley along the Wolfsheule to the Dharma center of the Buddhists, who teach this world religion in meditative and spiritual courses. The next great world religion awaits 2 km further in Luther's birthplace Möhra, where everything is Luther. You should embrace it. The login is next to the monument, on which naturally Martin Luther stands. You can fortify yourself again well in the cafe of the country bakery and original Thuringian sausage to take away in the now empty backpack for the last 4 km is bearable. Once back in the world champion town Gumpelstadt don't forget the login at the usual place and drop the chip into the mailbox at the Pummpälz office.
