Circular route 2.1 km
The circular route starts in the village center at the fountain opposite the water castle. Through the back village (street "Zum Töpferhof") it continues straight along the edge of the village to the junction "Bayrischer Grenzblick", from where you already have a very nice view towards the former border and also of the Gleichberge near Römhild. After another approx. 400 meters, you reach the western junction Goethestein. From here the path leads left along the edge of the forest to the viewpoint whose stone is named after the most famous German poet.
Unfortunately, Goethe was never here, but with this stone setting, the citizens of Schwickershausen proved in 1932 on the 100th anniversary of the poet prince's death that they too have a heart for German culture. If Goethe had come by here, he would probably have liked the view very much. Just like many readers of the Freies Wort, who voted this viewpoint as one of the most beautiful in southern Thuringia.
From here, the path leads us via the eastern junction Goethestein and the Kuhtrift back to Schwickershausen, where there is a good opportunity to stop at the inn "Zum grünen Baum".
